Excellent Value for Beginning Mechanic or Home Hobbiest December 1, 2007 Claude H. Suddreth (Phoenix, AZ USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an excellent starting kit for someone wanting to do mechanical work but starting from nothing. SK tools are generally considered to be a couple of steps up in terms of quality from the Sears / Home Depot / Lowes box store brands, and light years ahead of the cheap Chinese specials. In many instances S-K tools compare very favorably to the top truck brands like Snap-On, Matco, Cornwell, or Mac Tools. For example I have sockets from ALL of these brands - and honestly - I prefer my S-K sockets overall. I can not say every SK tool I have picked up is my personal favorite when compared to every other brand - but - I CAN say that every S-K tool I have picked up compares quite favorably in terms of quality, construction, fit and finish to any other brand. These are tools meant to last a lifetime and provide service for years and years. If you are just starting out - this is a good place to begin.
Good US made tools! July 26, 2007 David Fairbank (Montana) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
No, these aren't made of solid silver, but unlike some import cars they will last lifetime. Good quality doesn't come cheap. Want cheap, buy Craftsman (made in southeast Asia) or China made. Don't cry though when they break quickly or turn ugly and rusty. Not a bad price when compared to Snap-On, etc.
Buy a Used Car Instead June 13, 2007 A. Gordon Pym (Nantucket, of course) 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
Yes, it may have 480 pieces, but no, they are not made from solid sterling silver. I know...that would be too soft to use, but how else can they justify the price, even after this supposed $6K discount? Get you a nice Stanley set for $100. In fact, get one every year for the next 30 years, and you'll still come out ahead. Better yet, buy one Stanley set and my 1997 Nissan Maxima, then use your Stanley tools to fix it up. You'll still have money leftover. I'll make you a deal. By my car for the price of these tools, and I'll throw in the Stanley set for free.
